Self-Consolidating Concrete
Performing the conventional concrete vibration is caused to expel the air and reduces the porosity of concrete. In case of inappropriate execution or lack of proper utilities for some sections, many weaknesses may appear in the quality of concrete, like heterogeneous compaction due to concrete vibration, honeycombing, and segregation due to high vibration.
Problems caused by the vibration methods made the manufacturers and professionals produce concrete -with the help of proper aggregate gradation and other techniques- which achieve the desired compaction without vibration. This product, called Self-Consolidating Concrete, meets the needs of manufacturers in the construction of various structures and has higher stability and strength than ordinary concrete. High-strength SCC is one of the aerated concretes used in different types of construction without the need for vibration with its high efficiency. It maintains its compaction at all stages of concreting and places evenly in the form even in the presence of dense rebar. Self-Consolidating concrete(SCC) is the best choice for constructing structures with reinforced mesh.
Paying attention to factors such as aggregate gradation, the type of fillers, and admixtures involved in the SCC mix design affects the quality and workability of concrete.
The most significant feature of self-Consolidating concrete is its high resistance to segregation and flowability. Changes in cement, rock flour, mineral admixture, and new plasticizer in the concrete mix design improve the flowability of concrete. Compared to conventional concrete, consolidating concrete does not suffer from thermal cracks and resists perfectly to factors such as sulphate attack, corrosion, chemical agents, and freezing.
The advantages of self- Consolidating concrete or SCC can be modified as follows:
-
Self- Consolidating concrete flows evenly in all corners of the formwork without any compaction process and ensures the durability of the concrete structure.
-
This concrete completely covers the surface of all types of rebar, thus increasing their life.
-
Concreting speed is higher using self- Consolidating concrete, and the cost of human resources is significantly less.
-
Self- Consolidating concrete improves the quality of concrete surfaces and allows concreting with specific designs.
-
This concrete has a suitable density and compaction, and the heat generated by its hydration is acceptable.
-
Self- Consolidating concrete dries in the shortest possible time compared to ordinary concrete and achieves the final hardness.
-
The stability of this concrete against grain segregation is high; because the amount of sand used in it is less than ordinary concrete compared to sand, and as you know, the gradation of concrete components affects the characteristics of this material.
